CU's Municipal Affairs Committee

The work of Citizens Union’s Municipal Affairs Committee is conducted by volunteer Citizens Union members and Board members who are supported and guided by the staff. Meeting monthly, the committee develops policy recommendations and position statements concerning New York City government policy for consideration by the CU Board of Directors.

Committee work covers myriad city government reform issues.  Members evaluate the issues, examine proposed policies, prepare research, consult with civic leaders to discuss reform approaches, and strategize how best to advance Citizens Union’s positions. Working on issues such as City Council reform, campaign finance reform, public oversight of police misconduct and election reform, the Municipal Affairs Committee strives toward creating a more open, effective, and accountable City government.
